Thank You

Firstly, to every person that has had any connotation with this business, no matter how big or small, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Every order, every like and share on Facebook, every referral, every word of encouragemenet has helped to make this possible.

I grew up with an entrepreneur as a dad. Even though it was tough sometimes, it exposed me to the idea of being my own boss. Looking back, I leaned so much through seeing my parents work extremely hard to make a success of their business. So to my dad, thank you for what you have taught me, I will always treasure it in my heart.

In school, I made one very good friend, that is close to my heart to this day. Who just by chance had to sell her Kitchen Aid at exactly the same time that I needed a new one. Thank you Mieke.

During my time at University, God blessed me with amazing friends that tried (not always to their success) to keep me on the narrow road. But without them, I would definitely not be where I am today. Thank you, Anouchka, Deo-Dané and Chantelle. Deo, you always just showed up at the right time, thank you for your help on so many orders.

During my engineering studies, God put an incredible person on my path. A connection that would one day open doors for my business like no other, packaged in the form of a friend for life. Your friendship, unwavering support and advice, means more than words can describe, thank you Jana for the person you are to me.

To Willem Duursema, thank you for being the contact point God used to get me and Reinhardt closer to Him. You have done more that you will ever know.

To WG, thank you for your leadership. For guiding me back to God and showing His love in every situation. For keeping us accountable even though we were so stubborn. Thank you for teaching and showing me what it is to serve God, and most of all, for connecting me to Unite180, where I found my purpose in Christ.

To my mother-, father-, and sisters-in-law, for your creative inspiration and support. Leareyn, for wanting that Teddy Bear cake for HJ’s birthday, which was the start of everything. Marné, for helping me on my first exhibition, I could not have done it without you. Mom, for you investment, love, advice and recipes. Dad, for you interest and concern. You mean so much to me.

To Charlene, for giving me my very first order. God used that order to open so many different doors. Thank you for playing a part in my journey.

To Rudi, thank you for believing in me and wanting to give me a chance. Those first couple of orders, your encouragement and business knowledge is worth so much. And to everyone else at DDP, your support has not gone unnoticed.

To Ané, from Crate an Arrow, for wanting that very first wedding cake for your styled shoot. It broke barriers that I set for myself and was a gateway to so many new things that would come. You connected me to Carli as well as Leandra and great things have come (and is still to come) from those connections. Thank you.

To Collin, for planting the seed of an online bakery in my head. Even up until two months before my website would launch I still did not want an online shop, but after repeat requests I gave in. If it was not for that first though that was planted, I probably would not have recognised God’s plan in it all.

To Leandra, from Brood en Botter, for my amazing website! That you have shown interest from the earliest days and also encouraged an online shop. I am grateful.

To Natasha, from Forever After Photography and Design, for your amazing pictures of our styled shoots. Your talent and passion is contagious and your love of God is pure. Thank you for becoming a friend that always reminds me of God’s hand in my business and every aspect of life. And most of all, thank you for my incredible pictures that completes my website. I don’t have enough words.

To Pastor Chanelle, that gave me a chance to serve God with the passion and talent that He gave me. Making 2000 cake pops, 1700 cupcakes and numerous other treats (many times at rather short notice) has really taught me that I can TRULY do all things through Christ that strengthens me.  It is a privilege to serve in this house, under your and Pastor David’s leadership.

Anke, Righardt, Somé, Clerisse, Ankia for your help with orders, marketing and words of encouragement. I appreciate you.

To the gurls of Lion Heart, Nikki and Karmen, thank you for being an inspiration and allowing me into your bakery to pick your brains. Thank you for your advice and open hearts. You continue to inspire me every day.

Troné, my #bestie and “cheap labour” assistant. You are a machine. Your encouragement, help, support, humour and love has made this journey SO much easier.

To Anti Arina, thank you for your encouragement and relentless support on social media. But most of all, for your investment in my business. It means more that you can imagine!

To my number one fan, my sister, Carin. I know you would buy (and eat) every single cake I ever made if you were closer. Thank you for choosing my name, Melissa, which would one day become a door to this business. Thank you for your excitement with every project I undertake. Everybody needs a cheerleader, and you are certainly mine! I love you!

To my mom, for showing me what it means to be a strong woman. For showing me to keep going NO MATTER WHAT. For allowing me the opportunity to work from home. This would not have been possible if it was not for you (and your love of dark chocolate cake and brownies). I love you!

My husband, Reinhardt, I don’t even know where to start. In all honesty, you are the founder of this business. Thanks to you, I discovered my passion. Your profuse promotion of everything I have ever made, your endless (literally, ENDLESS) patience, your advice, the multiple times you said: “jis Lissa, jy is m*er goed”, your honest opinion, your critique and encouragement, is what made this business what it is today. It has not always been easy, but it has been worth it. Thank you for finding the purpose that has been locked up in my name for so long, due to your ridiculous ability to form nicknames. “Heuning Bytjie Bakker” is by far my favorite. I am forever thankful for who and what you are to me. I love you with my whole heart!

To my Heavenly Father, none of this would even exist without Your hand on my life. I thank You that You have chosen this vessel to glorify Your Name. I thank You for Your grace and mercy that has brought me this far. I thank You for Your favour in every aspect of this journey. Everything about this business is a testimony pointing to Your greatness. God, I ask that You do as You will, and that You use this space as You please. That you bless this business as you see fit, for I place it all in Your Hands.

–  May this generation profit from the seed that You have placed in my hand to sow  –
